STEP – Africa Education
GoalThe goal of this project is to provide school uniforms, supplies and tuition assistance to students in primary and secondary schools throughout Africa.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $52,491 over the next three years to help children in primary and secondary schools in African countries where education is not free.
DescriptionIn most African countries, education is not funded by the government. Only those who can afford the tuition, as well as the uniforms and supplies needed, can send their children to school. Education is key to fighting illiteracy and combating poverty. Investing in a primary and secondary education transforms communities, countries and the entire world.
According to UNICEF, girls who “…receive an education are less likely to marry young and more likely to lead healthy, productive lives. They earn higher incomes, participate in the decisions that most affect them, and build better futures for themselves and their families.” Educating children contributes to stable, resilient societies that give all individuals – including boys and men – the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
According to Christian economist Dr. Bruce Wydick, elementary and secondary education intervention and support is “critical” and its effects “may last a lifetime.”
The project total cost is $ $52,491 for 3 years, or $17,497 per year.
