Acts and Love in Action: BGsEtAl 2021Apr; Vol. XXI Num. 07; What shall I give You…
This month is the most dreaded month of the year. Nobody wants to pay taxes and CPAs are in a frenzy to file extensions for the many clients that are far behind schedule. We’ve just come out of a Holy Week that for a second year in a row has been very different than any others, due to the global pandemic that has lingered way too long…
As we meditate on the Word each day and use hymns to frame our meditations, there is a well-known hymn that lingers in our minds and hearts: What shall I give Thee, Master…

How many of us just focus on finances when we think of giving to God what is already His… Tithe, offerings, money are but means for us to express our gratitude to Him for His love and sacrifice on our behalf.
He is our Lord and Savior and gave all for you, for us, and for anyone who believes and accepts Him. He died, He redeemed our souls, He is the giver of gifts divine… How can we hold time, talents, or gold from Him? After all, everything is His and we are merely stewards of the resources He places in our hands; most of the time to bless others…
As we think about this tax season right after Holy Week, let us continue meditating on His love and sacrifice. Let us be grateful for what we receive from Him each day. Let us consider that amidst this pandemic and the many we have lost or have seen affected, He continues to be the Lord and Savior that loves us and bought eternity for us. He loves us so much that He is preparing places for us to go to! Isn’t that something to celebrate when our mortal abode is so fragile and decays so rapidly?
Most likely, since March 2020, none of us can say we’ve come unscathed by this pandemic. We all must have lost at least one person (and often more than one) to COVID-19 and the many other illnesses that we are still exposed to. We can wake up in the morning and not see the end of the day. This past year we’ve received word of so many loved ones whose hearts just stopped that day and left us without a warning or a good-bye!
It begets the question then, what shall we give our Master while we still have life and breath? We give Him our best to disciple those He brings in our path. We give Him our best to care for the Wayuu community in The Guajira and those in Riohacha that have limited resources for their own care. We give Him our best to care for the migrant community from Venezuela stranded in Colombia so that the churches in Cúcuta have what is needed to care for them. We give Him our best in seeking Him each day through His Word and in constant communication and prayer…
We are grateful for the many of you that have continued providing for our needs, making sure we are 100% prayed for, 100% accompanied, and (closer to) being 100% financially supported. By caring for us you support our caring for others and the cycle continues…
“My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.” (Proverbs 26.23 CSB). Homer W. Grimes based this hymn on this verse. It is our prayer that you will continually give your heart to the Lord and let your eyes observe His way. Remember that beyond finances and taxes, both necessary in the world that we live in, it is your heart and ours which God wants the most. And when our hearts are given to Him, He will move us to give Him and others our time, talents, and gold… Shall we?
